NEW DELHI: It seems that Microsoft is planning to introduce a lineup of low cost Surface tablets by the second half of 2018. As reported by Bloomberg, the company is planning to take on Apple iPad with the launch of budget Surface tablets.

The report suggests that the new Surface tablets will be smaller and cheaper as compared to the Surface Pro models. It is expected that the company might completely redesign the devices with 10-inch display and they will be priced under $400 which is inline with Apple iPads.

Bloomberg also adds that the new models will be 20% lighter as compared to the present Surface Pro and is said to deliver the battery backup of four hours. The device will be powered by Intel processor and graphics and will run Windows 10 Pro operating system. Just like the iPad, the Redmond-based tech giant is also considering of introducing models with LTE connectivity.

Along with this, the report also adds that the iconic Surface kickstand will also be there, but there will be no support for stylus. It is also said that the company is also working on cheaper versions of keyboard covers, stylus and mouse for the tablets.

Microsoft released the last budget device in the year 2015 which was the Surface 3 at a starting price tag of Rs $499. The device came with a 10.8-inch display and the company stopped its production in at the end of 2016.

Last week it was reported that Microsoft is working on its own smart speaker in association with the audio brand Harman Kardon.
